We had an absolute blast hosting the 2021 Pink Boots Brew Day for Victoria at our brewery in Melbourne.
Pink Boots is an international society that was created to inspire, empower and encourage women in the fermented/alcoholic beverage industry through education and support.
Each year Pink Boots Societies around the world team up with breweries to create a beer to raise money for scholarships, mentoring programs and educational opportunities. They use a special Pink Boots hop blend selected by members around the world sourced from hop producer Yakima Chief.
This year we have the honor of creating and brewing the Victorian release. Our very talented brewer Emily is the mastermind behind this year's beer, a Rye Pale Ale.
We hosted 30 members for a day full education session, in the brewhouse and beyond. Thanks to Ruth and Selena from yeast supplier Fermentis we learnt the history and diversity of yeast and its contribution to flavour. Steph from Cryer Malt taught us all about the hop blend we are using in our Rye Pale Ale and how Pink Boots members across the US and Australia worked together online to select the five hops in this blend, before we got to check out each hop individually and blend for ourselves! Lastly, our team hosted a brewery tour, a deep dive into our sustainability practices, a faults sensory session, a beer and cheese pairing (yum!) and revealed the name and story behind our Rye Pale Ale… but you will have to wait to find that out!
It was an awesome day filled with inspiring women making awesome beer. Thank you to everyone who came and we can’t wait to share Emily's + Pink Boots creation with you!
