2022 AFR BOSS Most Innovative Companies List
BRICK LANE BREWING NAMED IN 2022 AFR BOSS MOST INNOVATIVE COMPANIES LIST
Brick Lane Brewing has been named on the 2022 AFR BOSS Most Innovative Companies List. This prestigious annual list, published by The Australian Financial Review BOSS, is based on a rigorous assessment process managed by Australia’s leading behavioural science consultancy, Inventium, in conjunction with a panel of industry expert judges.
From over 700 nominated organisations across Australia and New Zealand, Brick Lane was assessed against Inventium’s Innovation Framework which compromises the nine elements science has shown to drive innovation. The assessment also judges the organisation's top innovation from the previous two years. Specifically, the judges look at how valuable the problem is that the innovation is solving, the quality and uniqueness of the solution, and the level of impact that the innovation has had.
Brick Lane was positioned in the Top 10 for the Manufacturing & Consumer Goods category, alongside other respected businesses PACT, Archie Rose Distilling and the eventual category winner, Viturvian.
Brick Lane was recognised for fostering an innovative culture and bringing creative thinking into everyday operations. Noting the benefits of collaboration across every aspect of the business, several processes caught the judges praise, particularly the development of novel brewing techniques especially related to propagating unique yeast strains for no and low alcohol production to provide a more reliable higher quality beer.
The innovation Brick Lane pursued around alcohol-free beer production, and the determination and investment that followed, is also available to other businesses that participate in Brick Lane’s partner brewing program. With the ethos that all brewers benefit from working together to grow the the brewing sector, Paul Bowker, Brick Lane’s Founder and Managing Director, said this shows the brewery’s commitment to foster an environment of innovation and collaboration within the business and the broader brewing community.
“Brick Lane has had innovation and sustainability at its core from the inception phase of the business. Our commitment was recently recognised when we received our B Corp certification. To follow that with the top 10 placing on the AFR BOSS Most Innovative Companies List is something that everyone associated with the brewery should be proud of – from our staff, our valued retail customers, business partners, investors and importantly our consumers who support growing independent brands like ours and many others.”
Bowker also noted, “We take an unconstrained approach to innovation in the way thoughts and ideas are generated and executed through all parts of the Brick Lane business. It’s one of the core values of everything we do. From innovation in the brewery, design, our processes and our culture, the modern approach to beer instinctively shuns stagnation. It’s something our industry proudly holds as a mutual benchmark so to be recognised amongst other manufacturing businesses is a great measure of how far we’ve come since opening our doors four short years ago in 2018.”
This award announcement follows Brick Lane achieving B Corp certification and its commitment to achieve True Zero carbon emissions by 2025. Brick Lane’s commitments have been formally set out in its 2022 Sustainability Update which covers the initiatives the brewery has undertaken to date and the following steps to be True Zero within three years.
